Nearly all Dutch tourists home from Egypt

Published on 1 February 2011 - 11:04pm
More about:

Travel companies have brought home most of the about 4,000 Dutch tourists who were stuck holidaying in Egypt over the last few days.

Netherlands embassy staff are checking for Dutch travellers stranded at Cairo airport. They will offer them assistance and try to get them back to the Netherlands.

Cairo chaotic
The situation in Cairo is considerably worse than in the tourist resorts, according to a spokeswoman from Eurocross Assistance. “Many Dutch people are stuck at the capital’s airport,” she says. “There is little help. People can’t check in, they are sleeping on the ground. Communication is bad, so they have very little information about how they can get back.”

Most of the people in difficulties booked tickets independently of travel companies or were making a stopover in Cairo.
