Published on 29 November 2012 - 1:52pm
More about:

Riot police fired water cannon to disperse people protesting against a controversial Chinese-backed copper mine in northern Myanmar, an activist told AFP Thursday.

"While we were sleeping riot police came to the site and fired water," said Yaywata, a monk who was among hundreds demonstrating against the mine, which has been the focus of months of protests over complaints of alleged land grabbing.
