Dutch cyclist Bauke Mollema has won the green points jersey in the last stage of the Vuelta (Tour of Spain).
The Rabobank team cyclist finished fourth overall. In the last stage of the Vuelta which ended in Madrid on Sunday he came in ninth narrowly beating Spaniard Joaquin Rodriguez who had hoped to win on points.
Mollema told public broadcaster NOS “It was not a planned goal. In the last week I was close. I did so well in so many stages, that I just went for it.”
He admits that the last day’s race was difficult, but his team mates helped him keep ahead. “A green jersey shows that you regularly do well.”
