Mladic heads to The Hague within 24 hours

Published on 31 May 2011 - 9:25am
More about:

A Serbian government official says former Bosnian Serb general Ratko Mladic is likely to be sent to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICYT) within the next 24 hours.

The anonymous official said Mladic’s extradition appeal will soon be rejected, allowing the justice minister to sign the extradition papers and put the former general on a plane to the Netherlands.

Mladic is accused of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. He was a fugitive for 16 years. His lawyer and relatives argue that, due to poor health, he should not be put on trial in The Hague.
