Mauro Manuel, the 18-year-old Angolan asylum seeker who has become a cause célèbre in the Netherlands, is making a last emotional appeal to parliament to be allowed to stay.
He has been living in the southern Dutch province of Limburg since he was 10 years old but is now in danger of being sent back to Angola.
A statement will be handed out in The Hague on Tuesday, the day MPs are due to debate his case. It reads in part:
“I promise I will always try to be an asset to the Netherlands. Please let me stay here forever. My future is in the Netherlands. I would like to be an example to others and work for Dutch society all my life.”
