Marianne Vos misses gold in World Championship

Published on 24 September 2011 - 5:13pm
More about:

Dutch racing cyclist Marianne Vos has won silver in the UCI Road World Championships in Copenhagen Denmark. It is the fifth time she has come second in the world championships, a record in itself. In 2006, she won the gold medal.

She narrowly missed become world champion. On Dutch public Radio One, an analyst said she was the clearly strongest cyclist, but allowed herself to become closed in by other cyclists and was too late to start the sprint. Nevertheless, in a very short distance, she managed to catch up, but not overtake defending champion Italian Giorgia Bronzini.

Earlier in the week, the Dutch national champion was disappointed after coming tenth in the individual time trial. Marianne Vos won the Giro d'Italia and several other competitions this year in various cycling disciplines.
