The University of Maastricht is one of the world's top 20 universities that were founded less than 50 years ago.
Maastricht is number 19 on a ranking list compiled by the Times Higher Education magazine. Each year, the magazine ranks the best universities in the world but this was the first year a ranking list has been published for "young" universities. Maastricht is the only Dutch university on the list for schools that have been around for less than 50 years.
Top of the list was Pohang University of Science and Technology in South Korea. In fact, a significant number of the universities on the list are in Asia, something the researchers say shows that the region is rapidly developing. Great Britain, Australia and the United States have the most universities on the list.
