Top criminal Willem Holleeder has filed an injunction to prevent a film coming out about the Freddy Heineken kidnapping.
The film, The Heineken Kidnapping, produced by IDTV Film, is due to be shown in the cinemas from 27 October. The hearing for the case is scheduled for 20 October in Amsterdam’s high-security ‘bunker’ court, which means Holleeder, who is currently serving a nine year sentence for extortion and membership of a criminal organisation, will attend the hearing.
Willem Holleeder received an 11-year sentence for the kidnapping in 1983 of the beer magnate and his chauffeur. The two were held captive for several weeks, before they were freed by police. Holleeder was released in 1992.
Holleeder himself does not feature in the film, his character has been merged with a second underworld figure. His lawyer says it is a matter of principle, director Maarten Treurniet is free to make a film about recent historical events, such as the Freddy Heineken kidnapping, but the film should reflect the facts 100 percent. IDTV disagrees.
The filming of the title song for the film caused commotion in Amsterdam on Tuesday. Shopkeepers called the police when they saw a speed boat with masked men racing through the canals. It turned out to be rapper Lange Frans enacting the getaway after robbing a jewellery store.
