Radovan Karadzic’s trial before the Yugoslavia Tribunal should in November be able to begin dealing with the charges of genocide relating to the fall of Srebrenica. Serge Brammertz, prosecutor at the UN tribunal in The Hague, gave journalists the news on Wednesday.
Thousands of Muslim men and boys were rounded up and shot by Bosnian-Serb troops after they had taken the Dutch-run UN enclave of Srebrenica in 1995.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia began the trial of the former Bosnian-Serb leader at the end of October 2009. Up to now, the court in The Hague has been dealing at length with war crimes alleged to have been committed during the siege of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo.

I would urge the ICTY to pick another time to try Karadjic. November marks 20 years since the beginning of the war. Also, elections will be held in Croatia in early December. The time of the trial will only feed nationalist sentiments on all sides, which is precisely what is not wanted. It would be nice if the international community used sense, for once.
