This month is on track to become the wettest July on record in the Netherlands. The current record holder is July 1930, which saw 192 millimetres of rainfall.
The first half of this month has already had 135 millimetres of rain. And this week is likely to bring between 25 and 50 millimetres more, weather forecasters say. Long term predictions beyond this week look equally rainy.
The coming week is likely to bring unstable weather, with daily downpours, possibly with thunderstorms.
There will be little sunshine and the average temperature will hover around 18 degrees, nearly five less than the average temperature for the second half of July.
The second wettest July on record was 1966, with 191 millimetres. The third wettest was in 1993, which had 171 millimetres. That means that the current month of July is almost certain to become one of the wettest ever recorded in this country.
