ICC investigates Libya sexual violence

Published on 1 December 2011 - 9:22am
More about:

A team from the International Criminal Court in The Hague arrived in Libya on Wednesday to investigate alleged sexual violence during the recent armed uprising against former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

Chief investigator Jane O’Toole said the team would conduct a preliminary investigation into the worst sex crimes against women which were reportedly committed by Gadaffi supporters.

ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo said in June that investigators had discovered evidence showing that Gadaffi had personally ordered mass rapes.
