Hottest 1 October ever recorded

It is the warmest 1 October ever recorded says meteorological office Weeronline (Weather Online). The temperatures in De Bilt - near Utrecht - reached 25.7 degrees this afternoon.

The previous record of 24.1 degrees was set more than a century ago in 1908. Today's highest temperatures in the country were recorded in Westdorpe in the south-western province of Zeeland and Deelen in the eastern province of Gelderland, where temperatures reached more than 26 degrees.

It is the seventh time ever that temperatures over 25 degrees have been reached in October. The last time was 1983.
