Holland’s Red Light District gets new profile

Published on 4 November 2011 - 10:33pm
More about:

Amsterdam City Council plans to shake up texts about the capital’s famous Red Light District on a number of tourist websites.

Christian Democrat councillors have complained that the descriptions lay too much emphasis on how exciting the area is, with attractions such as its legal prostitution and sex shops.

They want attention to be paid to the negative aspects of the sex industry, including abuses such as people trafficking and exploitation. They also want more said about the neighbourhood’s historical character.

Amsterdam council has been attempting to crack down on the abuses taking place in the Red Light District for some years.

Sorry Anonymous, have you heard of free will? Yes women are "human beings" and they should be able to choose to be a "working" prostitute. Period! If you have such a "moral" view of it, so be it, but don't push it on others.

Sorry alanposting, did not know that you have such views---will you allow women in your family?

Anonymous 7 November 2011 - 1:21pm

A great step in restoring the honour of hapless women. Prostitution can never be justified by any means. Men need to know that women are more than objects...they are human beings.
