Green Left to work closer to other Dutch opposition parties

Published on 20 December 2010 - 12:17pm
More about:

Jolande Sap, who replaced Femka Halsema as leader of Green Left at the weekend, has announced her party will be working closely with Labour and the D66 democrats in the Dutch parliament.

She hopes the move will lead to more publicity for the socially progressive alternatives to the policies being pursued by the Netherlands’ minority right-wing government.

While she didn’t rule out a possible merger with D66, Ms Sap thought any development in that direction would take years. However, she said that in the meantime she wanted “good, but not yet frequent” dialogue with the leaders of both D66 and Labour.
