German President's wife opens Keukenhof gardens

Published on 23 March 2011 - 11:05am
More about:

The German president's wife Bettina Wulff is opening the annual international flower exhibition at Keukenhof in Lisse. Her husband President Chritian Wulff and Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander will attend the ceremony. A tulip will be named after Bettina Wulff during the opening ceremony.

The theme this year at the famous gardens close to the bulb fields on the Dutch coast is 'Germany, a country of poets and philosophers'. The highlight of the exhibition is a flower mosaic of the Brandenburg Gate and inspiration gardens with a German twist.

In the afternoon the presidential couple will visit the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, where there is currently an exhibition on Anne Frank's introvert sister Margot. The visit will end with the couple receiving a royal audience with Queen Beatrix at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.

This is the 62nd Keukenhof exhibition and it will be open daily to the public from 24 March to 20 May 2011.
