Freedom of expression on trial: Wilders

Published on 1 June 2011 - 12:18pm
More about:

Geert Wilders had the last word in his trial on Wednesday. “Acquit me. Let the light not be extinguished in the Netherlands,” said the leader of the Freedom Party (PVV).

He is charged with discrimination and inciting hatred against Muslims and other ethnic minorities. Mr Wilders said that freedom of expression was also on trial in this case and that a huge burden of responsibility rests on the shoulders of its judges.

The Wilders trial has now come to an end. The court’s decision will be announced on 23 June. Last week, the Public Prosecutors Office asked the court to acquit Mr Wilders.

The trial was meant to end last October, but Mr Wilders’ lawyer, Bram Moszkowicz, accused the judges of partiality. The trial then had to recommence with three new judges.

Free Geert NOW. He speaks for us all, Muslim women included. Walking around in sacks with a mesh to peer out of is not worthy of the 18th century never mind the 21st. Of course in Islam it is only about 1460, or there abouts. Islam IS a backward and vicious religion. No two ways about it, yet European politicians are terrified of upsetting these barbarians. We ALL owe Geert for speaking up for us, God bless you Sir.

If jasim jan from Afghanistan has the right to spew venom and express obscene remarks against Indians and Indian women, a right provided to him by RNW in an article by Robert Chesal, then Geert Wilders too has the right to express his views without getting punished...

Hiram, a guilty verdict will not amount to appeasement as you claim. The EU countries' bombing of oil wealthy Lybia is hardly in step with this theory, which is frightening other Middle East dictators selling oil globally. As for Geert not paying a one euro fine and going to jail on the principle of being a political prisoner, this will not happen. Geert would have to surrendet control of the PVV to someone else, thus making the records of the party public, including the revenues he personally receives and contols from sources such as the "International Network". This is tantamount to Elliot Ness securing Al Capone's record books. Geert is not going to throw away his fledgling empire for a single euro!!

"The EU countries' bombing of oil wealthy Lybia is hardly in step with this theory, which is frightening other Middle East dictators selling oil globally."...David Berridge, a verdict guilty appeases those dictaors of Islamic countries because they have put pressure on the EU to prosecute Wilders. As long as they are appeased and content that their pressure worked, they will sell there oil to the EU. Let the citizens of Europe openly burn and disrepect their holy book without consquences from the various E.U. governments and you will see the threat of "no" oil. Wilders case is an appeasement. The EU does and has appeased other governments for oil and gas. We saw it when the Russians attacked Georgia. The Russians threaten to cut off the gas supply to Europe and Europe turned a blind eye to crimes committed by the Russians to keep the supply. Wilders is being accused of crimes because of freedom of expression against Mulims.

"Geert is not going to throw away his fledgling empire for a single euro!!"...David Berridge, you are very correct. If the "freedom of expression" is endangered as he states, then compromising by paying one euro is a compromise. You are correct. It appears his empire is built upon sand. Regardless of the penality, and if he gives in and obeys the court orders, then he lacks the leadership to defend those who believe Islam is a threat. Do you think he would do it for thirty pieces of silver? I will wait until the verict guilty comes in.

"Geert Wilders had the last word in his trial on Wednesday. “Acquit me. Let the light not be extinguished in the Netherlands,” said the leader of the Freedom Party (PVV)."......The "light" (Freedom of expression) is fading very quickly. When the prosecution didn't want to prosecute Wilders, the court's judges chose to prosecute him anyway. Why? Because they were given orders to do so by the powers to be in the Netherlands and E.U. to do so. They, the powers, want to quash not only Wilder's speech but the speech of all Europeans. In Wilder's case, they are attempting to appease the Islamic nations that produce oil. If they can get a conviction on Wilders, then they will suppress the European voice and gain favour with the oil producing nation under Islamic control at the same time. It is all about total control and subjugation of the people to the state. Wilder's is not guilty of anything. The guilty ones are the minions who set on the court. They blindly do as they are told. They will find him guilty but to appease the people of the Netherlands, the punishment will be "one" euro. Mr. Wilders, if you have to pay a fine, don't do it. Go to jail and be a political prisoner.
