A medical examination has shown that the Dutch war criminal Heinrich Boere is fit enough to serve the life sentence that was imposed on him last year.
So far, Boere (89) has been allowed to stay in an old people’s home in the German town of Eschweiler. Last year, the court in Aachen convicted Boere of killing three Dutch citizens as a member of the Feldmeijer death squad during World War II. The German federal court in Karlsruhe last year rejected the appeal Boere had filed against his conviction.
A spokesperson for the Aachen public prosecutors office says the authorities are looking for a suitable prison. Boere is confined to a wheelchair and needs medical attention. The public prosecutors office expects to be able to incarcerate the former SS-man at the end of the year.
