Foreign investment in Netherlands up

Published on 9 February 2012 - 12:56pm
More about:

Foreign businesses invested more than 1.4 billion euros in the Netherlands in 2011.

The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency says this is a major increase compared to 2010 when total foreign investment was 956 million euros.

Chinese businesses are the biggest investors, with the United States in second position.

The 2011 foreign investments created about 4,300 jobs, most of them in the provinces of North Holland, South Holland and North Brabant.

One of the biggest investments was a gas storage facility to be built in the North Holland town of Bergermeer by a consortium that includes a Dutch subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Energy Company.

A total of 41 foreign businesses set up their headquarters in the Netherlands in 2011, 14 more than in 2010.
