Feyenoord out of Europa League, Utrecht beat Celtic 4-0

Published on 27 August 2010 - 1:26am
More about:

Feyenoord is the only Dutch team to crash out of the Europa League after suffering a shock 2-0 defeat at Gent in Belgium. The Rotterdam club had won last week's playoff first leg by the narrowest of margins: 1-0.

The other three Dutch contenders all managed to go through, with FC Utrecht making the biggest impression, knocking out Celtic 4-0. Striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel scored a hat-trick for the home side with Barry Maguire adding a fourth, giving Utrecht a 4-2 lead on aggregate.

PSV Eindhoven scored a similarly comfortable win, beating FC Sibir Novosibirsk from Russia 5-0 and winning 5-1 on aggregate.

Despite losing 2-1 to FK Aktobe from Kazakhstan, AZ Alkmaar are also through because of their 2-0 first leg victory last week.
