The National Association of Family Doctors is taking Legal action against Health Minister Edith Schippers in a bid to stop her from recovering money she claims the doctors owe the ministry.

The association and the minister are at loggerheads over cutbacks the minister wants to introduce. The minister argues the doctors have been overspending recently and should pay back money.

For their part, the doctors point out that their tasks have increased since the minister charged them to carry out simple procedures formerly performed by hospitals, which are more expensive. The doctors say their increased revenues are the result of their increased tasks.
