More about:

The Dutch national soccer squad has won its sixth Euro 2012 qualifying match, beating Hungary 5-3 before a capacity crowd at the Amsterdam ArenA. With 18 points from six matches, trainer Bert van Marwijk’s squad go to the top of Group E.

At half-time, the Dutch were just up 1-0 after a goal from Robin van Persie. Gergely Rudolf and Zoltán Gera surprisingly put Hungary ahead 2-1 just into the second half. Wesley Sneijder equalised, and then Ruud van Nistelrooij put the Netherlands 3-2 ahead. Gera got another goal to equalise for Hungary, but two more from Dirk Kuijt clinched the Dutch victory.

Former Dutch national squad captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst took his farewell of the fans before the kickoff of this evening’s match. He was awarded a memorial golden dish by the KNVB Dutch Football Association. He ended his impressive career on the field with last summer’s World Cup final which the Netherlands lost to Spain.
