Energy Agency could have Dutchwoman for chair

Published on 23 December 2010 - 5:58pm
More about:

Former Dutch Economy and Education Minister Maria van der Hoeven is a candidate for the chair of the International Energy Agency.

Speaking to Radio Netherlands Worldwide Ms Van der Hoeven confirmed that she will officially apply for the top position in January, when the vacancy will be declared.

Among the competitors of the Dutch Christian Democrat politician are the IEA's current Executive Director, former Japanese minister Nobuo Tanaka, and former Czech prime minister Mirek Topolanek.

Ms Van der Hoeven pointed out that her candidacy was leaked by Arab and Czech media, which could indicate that other candidates have begun their campaigning for the post.
