Dutch racing cyclist Lars Boom has won the Tour of Britain. The Rabobank Team cyclist had been in the top three for much of the competition.

Half way through the eighth stage -Sunday's circuit race past the sights of London - he knew he had won the Gold Jersey. Earlier in the day he had increased his lead in the time trials. This is the second time Boom has won a tour, in 2009, he was first in the Tour of Belgium.

The season has ended abruptly for another Rabobank racer, Robert Gesink, after he broke his leg in training on Sunday. As a result he will not be able to take part in the World Championships in Copenhagen later this month or in the Italian classic race Emilia and Lombardia.
