Dutchman gets 11 years for drug smuggling in Germany

Published on 11 January 2011 - 5:25pm
More about:

A 40-year old Dutchman has been sentenced by a German court to 11 years in prison for drug smuggling. The Munich district court said the man was guilty of smuggling and selling 473 kilograms of cannabis.

Munich local daily Merkur reported that René B. (surname withheld for legal reasons) organised several trips to transport drugs into Germany between 2003 and 2005. While a number of suppliers and drug couriers had been taken into custody, B. was able to continue with his business in drugs. Some 50 people were involved in the drug ring, of which 13 have been arrested. It's expected that B. will be able to serve his sentence in the Netherlands.
