A Dutchman has been arrested in the north of Colombia at the request of authorities of the southern Caribbean island of Curaçao, Colombia newspaper El Espectador reports.
The man, identified according to Dutch convention only as Demetry A., was allegedly involved in a shooting incident on 31 October 2010 at a discotheque in Curaçao. A police officer who was still undergoing training was hit in the incident and died later in hospital.
According to El Espectador, A. is a member of an international youth gang responsible for several murders and cases of extortion.
Authorities in Colombia and Curaçao launched an investigation five months ago and were able to finally trace the Dutchman in the northern region of La Guajira. He has already been extradited to Curaçao.
Curaçao is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It formed one of five island territories of the former Netherlands Antilles, which were dissolved on 10 October 2010.
