The Dutch Football Association has announced that the national squad will visit Auschwitz concentration camp during the upcoming European Football Championship in Poland and Ukraine. A date for the visit has not yet been set.
The former Nazi death camp is not far from the Polish city of Krakow, which is where the Dutch team will be based during the competition. The English and German teams will also visit Auschwitz at some point during the tournament.
The Auschwitz concentration camp was a series of work and extermination camps built by the Nazis in Poland during the Second World War.
At least 1.3 million people, about 90 percent of them Jews, were murdered in Auschwitz. Those who did not die in the gas chambers were worked to death or they died of starvation, infectious diseases and medical experiments.
