Dutch spent 23 million euros on Haiti aid so far

Published on 24 September 2010 - 2:22pm
More about:

The joint Dutch humanitarian aid organisations have said they spent 23 million euros on aid to Haiti in the first half of 2010. The aid groups' umbrella organisation, SHO, said that 22 million went directly to emergency aid, while the remaining 1 million was used on initial rebuilding projects.

Half the emergency aid involved temporary housing for 600,000 people, who were given tents, tarpaulins, blankets, kitchen utensils and other non-food items. Immediate food aid cost 2.4 million euros.

Management costs for the 15 groups which form SHO amounted to 370,000 euros.

After the earthquake struck Haiti on 12 January 2010, the Dutch public donated 69 million euros towards aid, to which the government added another 41 million euros.
