The Socialist Party will next week submit a proposal to lower the salary of politicians.

The move was prompted by a similar proposal which was recently adopted by the Belgian parliament.

MP Jasper van Dijk said on Thursday that “the Socialist Party is enthusiastic about the Belgian proposal.” He said it was no more than natural that MPs and ministers should take a look at their own salaries in a time of drastic budget cuts as a result of an economic crisis.

The Belgian MPs are lowering their salaries by five percent.
