The life expectancy of babies born between 2000 and 2010 has increased substantially, according to Statistics Netherlands. Life expectancy for males has risen from 75.5 to 78.8 years old, for females it’s gone up from 80.6 to 82.7.

Men who reached 65 in the same period are now expected to live a further 17.6 years; up from 15.3. Women in the same age group may live an additional 20.8 years, as opposed to 19.2.

The likeliehood of 60 year-olds reaching 80 has also increased substantially, from 52 percent in 2000 to 63 percent last year. The increase for women in this group is smaller, but three quarters of women are expected to reach 80 years of age. A third of 65-year-old women will make 90 if mortality rates remain the same as they are now. Almost 20 percent of men aged 65 may now expect to live until their 90s.
