Dutch raise 18.5 million for Horn of Africa

Published on 5 August 2011 - 8:32pm
More about:

Nearly 18.5 million euros have so far been raised to help the famine victims in the Horn of Africa, a spokeswoman for the Dutch Cooperating Aid Organizations said.

The fund raiser began on Monday and will end on Sunday.

Individuals, organisations and companies across the country have been organising scores of events to raise the money for Giro 555.

Just over half the Dutch say they are not donating any money, according to a survey among a 1,000 people.

The main reason, according to the poll, is that people wonder whether the money will reach the victims or will go to others. Another reason respondents mention is that they can’t spare the money.
