Wednesday's planned public transport strikes in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam will go ahead, after a court ruled that the industrial action will not have a “disproportionate” effect on passengers.
The strikes will take place outside the morning and evening rush hours (from 09:00 - 15:00) to allow staff to attend a protest rally close to the Dutch parliament in The Hague.
The three public transport operators GVB (Amsterdam), HTM (The Hague) and RET (Rotterdam) had gone to court seeking an injunction that would stop the strikes.
Wednesday's industrial action is the latest in a series of strikes by public transport workers furious at government cutbacks on bus, tram and metro services. They also oppose the government's plan to force the Netherlands' biggest three cities to put public transport services out to tender as required by EU legislation.
