Dutch proposal to alter transfer deadlines

Published on 29 August 2011 - 9:51am
More about:

The Dutch football association KNVB will seek support at next month’s UEFA conference in Cyprus for a proposal to alter transfer deadlines.

In an interview with national newspaper De Telegraaf, KNVB professional football Director Bert van Oostveen says its proposal is intended to fight unfair competition.

Mr van Oostveen says he is annoyed by the fact that players can play a few matches for one club before transferring to another just before the end of the transfer period.

The KNVB director says his ideas focus on “a transfer window which closes ahead of all competitions, in which case 31 July would be a good date.”

“Another idea would be bringing forward the start of the transfer period by two weeks.”
