In Sunday’s Premier League football, Ajax beat Frisian club Heerenveen 5-1 in a home game in the Amsterdam ArenA. In the second match of the new competition Ajax again took maximum points and now lead the rankings on goal difference.
The Amsterdam club took the lead after 38 minutes when Kolbeinn Sighthorsson scored the first goal of the match. Bas Dost scored the equaliser less than a minute later. However, Ajax players Toby Alderweireld, Derk Boerrigter, Miralem Sulejmani and Gregory van der Wiel subsequently scored a goal each, securing victory for the national champions.
FC Utrecht held De Graafschap to a draw in Utrecht. De Graafschap players Rydell Poepon and Soufian El Hassnaoui gave the visiting team a 2-0 lead, but Jacob Mulenga brought back some excitement to the game when he scored Utrecht's first goal in the 77th minute of the match. Barely six minutes later, the Zambian player saved his team from defeat with a second goal.
In Almelo, Heracles fought long and hard to secure a 2-1 victory over NAC Breda. Matthew Amoah scored the only NAC goal thirty minutes into the match. After half time, Willy Overtoom scored the equaliser from a fiercely-contested penalty. The deciding goal came from Brazilian player Everton 15 minutes before the final whistle.
FC Groningen beat visitors ADO Den Haag 4-2, largely thanks to a hat trick from Tim Matavz. Two unexpected gaols by ADO made the home team a little nervous, but did not endanger their victory.
Saturday’s results:
FC Twente - AZ 2-0
PSV - RKC Waalwijk 1-0
Vitesse - VVV Venlo 4-0
