While Ajax remain strong favourite for Premier League victory, four teams are battling it out for second place and the chance of playing in Europe next season.
One of them is FC Twente, who snatched a last-minute victory against bottom-of-the-league Excelsior on Saturday. With his team facing a goalless draw, substitute Nacer Chadli came to the rescue to give Twente an uninspired 1-0 win.
Meanwhile Feyenoord are closing the season with a striking return to form. Sunday’s deserved 2-1 win against ADO Den Haag gives them 20 points from their last eight matches and makes them serious contenders for runner-up position in the Premier League and a shot at the Champions League.
To get there, they will have to pass AZ who managed to hold on to the coveted second place on Sunday with a 2-1 win over low-ranking VVV-Venlo. The unconvincing victory was nevertheless welcome after a series of disappointing results.
PSV also remain in contention, coming back from one goal behind for a 2-1 victory against NEC in the second half, the winner coming in the 88th minute.
Ajax are still sitting pretty at the top, winning 2-0 against FC Groningen.
