Dutch police protest by closing stations

Published on 5 April 2012 - 7:40am
More about:

Police stations in the Netherlands' four largest cities will be closed for a number of hours on Thursday.

The Dutch police officers' union has organised the protest action as part of an effort to secure a more lucrative collective bargaining agreement from the Ministry of Justice.

As a result, people who wish to conduct business with the police in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the Hague and Utrecht, will have to wait to do so on Thursday. Some police stations may only be open for half of the day, but there will a number of police officers on hand at the stations to deal with potential emergencies.

In Amsterdam and The Hague, the protest will be held from 1pm till 5pm. In Rotterdam, the stations will be closed from noon till 4pm. In Utrecht three stations will be closed from 9am till 1pm.
