Dutch police bust human trafficking ring

Published on 11 November 2011 - 2:49pm
More about:

A special team of military police at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport busted a human trafficking ring out of Iran on Friday. According to military police spokesperson Robert van Kapel, three men were arrested aged 30, 31 and 24 years old.

Investigations into the trafficking ring began in June. Evidence gathered revealed that the suspects smuggled people into the Netherlands for several years. The suspects then produced false travel documents for their victims, sending them off to Germany and Austria before eventually re-locating them to the UK.

The military police's so-called Migration Team had been following the men, their relatives, friends and neighbours. They also conducted searches of several residences in Amsterdam and Pumerend where the suspected smugglers lived.

Professional printers and a laser perforator used for producing counterfeit Dutch identity cards were seized in the raids. Police also confiscated other illegal equipment, computers, cash and gold.
