Prime Minister Mark Rutte has said the Netherlands wants to release 1.4 billion euros of frozen Libyan assets.
Mr Rutte made his statement just before he left for the Libya summit which is being held in Paris on Thursday. The prime minister said that releasing the money was “of the utmost importance to reviving the Libyan economy.”
The assets of former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi were frozen when he initiated a brutal crackdown on protests against his regime. Mr Rutte said that the Netherlands also wants to offer its expertise to help detect mines and unexploded ordnance in Libya.
