Police in the eastern province of Twente arrested two petrol thieves after a wild car chase that ended with police officers firing warning shots.
The incident occurred near the town of Hengelo at half past three in the morning, a police spokesperson said.
A driver and a passenger had made off from a filling station without paying. The police soon tracked the car, forcing it to stop. The suspects then rammed the police car and fled by car.
After a high-speed chase, the car was forced to stop a second time, near Hengelo. As the two tried to flee the scene on foot, police fired warning shots in the air.
The two suspects will be charged with attempted manslaughter, the police spokesperson said
