Dutch mission to Bosnia to end in November

The Dutch government has decided that the mission to Bosnia-Herzegovina will end in mid-November at the latest.

The Netherlands has been taking part in operation Althea since December 2004. Initially, 530 Dutch soldiers were stationed in Bosnia-Herzegovina which was ravaged by a civil war between 1992 and 1995. At present, just 85 Dutch soldiers are stationed in the Balkan nation. There number will be further reduced to 75 in the course of this year.

The UN mandate for the European EUFOR mission expires on 19 November. The soldiers are monitoring the cease-fire and the disarmament of the former Bosnian armed forces.
