Dutch Football: PSV beat Willem II in injury time

Published on 29 January 2011 - 11:27pm
More about:

Saturday's Premier League action saw table leaders PSV struggle to beat bottom-of-the-league Willem II 2-1 well into injury time. Replacement Género Zeefuik scored the decisive goal.

Willem II ended the match with just nine men on the pitch after Denis Halilovic (two yellow cards) and Veli Lampired were shown red cards. Thanks to a goal by Bart Biemans, the away team were ahead in the first half. Shortly after half-time PSV's Toivonen scored the equaliser.

Playing home AZ scored a massive 6-1 victory over VVV Venlo. All goals were scored by just two Icelandic names: Sigthorsson netted five and Gudmonsson one. Ahmed Musa scored for VVV.

Vitesse too notched up a huge victory, defeating Roda JC 5-2. A goal scored by Mads Junker after just three minutes briefly allowed Roda to take the lead. But Vitesse's Nemanja Matic, Marco van Ginkel en Jordi López (penalty) then turned the match around well before half-time. In the second half, newcomer Haruna Babangida and again Van Ginkel added two more goals to the score board. Some 20 minutes before the end, Jimmy Hempte secured the final 5-2 score.

The fixture between De Graafschap and Utrecht has been postponed until Tuesday after the local authorities failed to find enough police officers.
