Two Dutch F16s helped police in Brabant in the south of the Netherlands chase some car thieves on Thursday evening.
The fighter jets were just about to set off on a training mission and so were immediately available to join in the chase, explains a ministry of defence spokesperson – adding that F16s don’t often help with police chases.
Officers in the village of Odiliapeel in Brabant had chased a suspected stolen car earlier. The car got stuck and the three young men inside made a run for it. Two of them were quickly arrested but the third got away.
The F16s helped look for the man using specialist target tracking devices, but the search still ended in failure. However, the 22-year-old suspect was arrested later after he asked for help at a house. The residents reported him to the police.
