Spanish authorities arrested a Briton and a Dutchman Thursday for suspicion of smuggling nearly 700 kilos of cocaine aboard their yacht. According to Spanish news website ABC, the boat was discovered near the Basque town of Zumaia.
Spanish customs officials seized 698 kilos of cocaine from the yacht, which sailed under the British flag. The drugs, determined to be of very high purity, were found packed in plastic bags and distributed throughout the yacht, which had sailed from an unknown port in the Caribbean.
The discovery is one of the biggest drug seizures ever in the Bay of Biscay. The final destination of the alleged smugglers is still unknown.
