Development organisation Oxfam Novib rejects PVV allegations

Published on 1 November 2010 - 10:00pm
More about:

Oxfam Novib Director Farah Karimi has said: We do not fund anti-Israel organisations nor do we fund the Wilders trial.” She made her statement in a reaction to allegations made by Freedom Party (PVV) MP Johan Driessen.

Mr Driessen lashed out at Deputy Foreign Minister Ben Knapen to grant the development aid organisation 421 million euros in subsidies for the coming five years. The PVV MP called Oxfam Novib a “subsidies guzzler” and said the organisation lent support to elements of the anti-Israel movement and to the political trial of Geert Wilders. Mr Driessen said Oxfam Novib funds aid projects in China, the world’s second largest economy. “Why take Dutch tax money to a country awash in cash?''

Ms Karimi said the allegations were made “unhindered by any familiarity with the facts. “I am curious about where the PVV gets its information. Mr Driessen is heartily welcome to come here and see for himself what we do with the money. We have nothing to hide.” Ms Karimi added that Oxfam Novib does support a number of labour rights related projects in China. “This is simply part of our human rights work.” Our mission is the fight against poverty and to defend human rights. I was under the impression that the PVV also supports human rights.”

Just when it is thought that the PVV cannot sink any lower, it comes up with something to achieve anything in this form of endeavour than before. This cowardly slander is so bad that Geert cannot bring himself to say it, so he gets a PVV staff member in Cabinet to do the dirty work. Why the Dutch judiciary and treasury need to divert the coffers of an international aid organization to enjoy Geert's company in a courtroom is ridiculous at best. Now Geert is getting his desired repeat of the trial, he should welcome funding from any source. It is now obvious that this political fear method is Geert's manner to announce his targets in advance, even without the prior warning or consent to the governing Rutte-Verhagen pact which the PVV is bound by agreement to support.
