Dozens of flights have been cancelled at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport due to the wintry weather. Flights that have not been cancelled are delayed by an hour due to the backlog.
A spokesperson for the airport says airlines are doing all they can to make sure all passengers manage to reach their destinations on Saturday. No-one is expected to have to spend the night at the airport. If passengers are stranded they will be booked into hotels.
On an average Saturday, between 1000 and 1200 flights arrive and take off at Schiphol. The airport says passengers should watch out for updates on teletext and the internet.
On Friday night, airlines booked most of the transfer passengers who became stranded into hotels. Around 1000 passengers were forced to spend the night on camp beds in the airport. The Red Cross helped provide them with emergency beds, blankets, food and water.
