The man who set himself on fire in Amsterdam’s Dam Square on Wednesday has died. The man, an Iranian national, was rushed to a specialist burn centre at Beverwijk where he succumbed to his wounds.
The 36-year-old, whose request for asylum had recently been rejected, could not be questioned by police due to his serious condition. The Dutch authorities are now trying to establish contact with his relatives in Iran.
The incident provoked a great deal of commotion on Dam Square, site of the National War Monument and the Royal Palace. Bystanders tried to put out the flames engulfing the victim. The square was cordoned off by the police for several hours.

He died because there was no empathy, sympathy and understanding of his legitimate case on the part of the Dutch authorities and judicial system. It is a shame!
