A court in Amsterdam will meet behind closed doors on Monday to decide whether to admit a compensation claim filed by minorities in the hate speech trial against populist Freedom Party MP Geert Wilders.
The so-called aggrieved parties are a number of minority organisations who will demand a symbolic compensation of one euro for Mr Wilders’ “insulting statements”.
Mr Wilders has been charged with hate speech, discrimination and group insult.
Last week, the request was rejected by the Public Prosecutor.
The judges who will make a final decision on Monday are not those hearing Mr Wilders’ trial.
On Monday morning, the court will first decide whether to continue Mr Wilders’ trial at all.
His lawyer, Bram Moszkowicz, argues it should be stopped saying his client is not receiving a fair trial.
