Cleaner freed after weekend lift nightmare

Published on 28 May 2012 - 2:07pm
More about:

A cleaner from Amsterdam who was trapped for two days in a lift was found and freed on Monday afternoon, police said.

The 31-year-old woman was reported as missing by her husband on Saturday afternoon after he failed to make contact with her.

In the course of the investigation, police searched a law firm which the woman had cleaned on Saturday. The woman was discovered in the lift which had stopped working. The cleaner wasn’t carrying a mobile phone and was unable to alert anyone about her plight.

After being examined by medical staff, the woman was able to reunite with her husband. Doctors say she wasn’t seriously injured, but was weak after the trauma as she didn’t have anything to eat or drink with her.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the power failure in the lift, which was most likely due to a short power cut in the centre of Amsterdam on Saturday.
