Christian Union calls for hooligan levy

Published on 31 October 2011 - 10:08pm
More about:

Football clubs must pay for the cost of policing football. The Christian Union says the 15 million euros this would generate would enable the police to recruit more officers.

The party will put the proposal to the Security and Justice Ministry on Tuesday during the parliamentary debate on the ministry budget.

Christian Union MP Carola Schouten says this ‘hooligan levy’ is needed because the police devote over 300,000 man hours a year to football matches. It not only costs money, it keeps police from other duties.
