Belgian soccer mob disrupts Dutch game

Published on 24 July 2011 - 3:14pm
More about:

A large group of Belgian football supporters went on the rampage on Saturday evening in the southern Dutch town of Kerkrade.

The trouble occurred during a friendly match between local Dutch Premier League side Roda JC and Club Brugge KV from Bruges in Belgium. Dutch police say about 30 Belgians invaded the pitch during the game which had to be suspended for a time.

After the match, police were pelted with bottle, stones and traffic signs which had been ripped out of the road. Officers mounted a number of charges against the mob which dispersed after about an hour. One officer was injured in the violence.
