AZ struggled to secure a 2-0 away victory over De Graafschap but the victory allowed them to get three points ahead of Ajax, the table’s new number two.
Rasmus Elm scored AZ’s first goal just after half-time by curving a corner past powerless goalkeeper Yves De Winter. De Graafschap, who are second from the bottom of the table, then did all it it could but failed to convert the few chances it had. Erik Falkenburg grabbed Ajax’s second goal in injury time.
